I had the same exact problem last spring and I was told the same thing change the kind of oil I was using. Did nothing for it. Took it to the Suzuki shop and they tore it apart and found very little or no friction pad on the disks. I only had 7900 miles on my '87 at that time. One thing I have noticed about the Savage , Suzuki didn't go overboard on the price of the parts used on it.The clutches, brakes,ect. The price for changing the clutch disks was surprisingly cheap, about $150.00 for parts and labor.
